Job Description Job Description Title: Cost Accountant Location: Utah County Salary: $75,000 - $95,000 Schedule: M - F Business hours True Nature Meats is seeking a detail-oriented Cost Accountant to join our growing team in the premium food industry. True Nature Meats specializes in chef-crafted, fully cooked meats—made from real, clean ingredients with no shortcuts or fluff—that are responsibly sourced from the world's best ranches (including the Intermountain West and global regions like Argentina and Brazil). Our ready-to-eat products deliver bold, restaurant-quality flavor straight to customers' doors via direct-to-consumer shipping. This role focuses on accurate cost tracking, inventory accounting, and financial analysis for our premium meat products, packaging, and shipping materials, using Oracle ERP systems. Based in the Sandy/Salt Lake City area of Utah, this position plays a key role in ensuring precise product costing, variance analysis, and support for our operational and financial decision-making in a fast-paced, quality-driven environment. Key Responsibilities Track and account for all sold meat products, including monitoring inventory movements, depletion, and cost of goods sold (COGS) within Oracle ERP modules (Inventory, Cost Management, etc.). Manage costing and tracking of packaging materials, shipping supplies, and related consumables to ensure accurate valuation and reconciliation. Develop, maintain, and update standard costs for products, including bills of materials (BOMs), labor, overhead, and material components. Perform detailed variance analysis (standard vs. actual costs) for production, inventory transactions, purchase price variances, and material usage. Reconcile inventory records (physical counts, cycle counts) with general ledger balances, investigate discrepancies, and support month-end/year-end close processes. Prepare and distribute regular reports on cost trends, inventory levels, gross margins, and product profitability to support operations and management. Collaborate cross-functionally with production, supply chain, purchasing, and finance teams to improve cost accuracy, identify efficiencies, and resolve issues. Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and special projects related to cost optimization in a perishable goods and direct-to-consumer environment. Qualifications & Requirements Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field (required); CPA, CMA, or relevant certification preferred. 3 years of cost accounting or inventory accounting experience, preferably in manufacturing , food processing, meat industry, or a similar perishable/inventory -heavy sector. Strong proficiency with Oracle ERP (or similar enterprise systems like SAP/JD Edwards) for inventory transactions, cost management, and subledger accounting. Advanced skills in Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, data analysis) and experience handling large datasets. Solid understanding of cost accounting principles, standard costing, variance analysis, and inventory valuation methods. Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and attention-to-detail skills. Strong communication abilities to collaborate across departments and present findings clearly. Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment with perishable goods, global sourcing, and direct-to-consumer operations.
