Job Description Job Description Job Description for Golf Course Turf Mechanic Title: Golf Course Turf Mechanic Code: Division: Golf Course Effective Date: 10/25 Department: Turf Last Revised: N/A Status Full Time Grade: 17 General Purpose This employee performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled mechanical and technical tasks related to the maintenance, repair, and operation of golf course equipment, irrigation pumps, and related systems at Eaglewood Golf Course. The principal purpose of this position is to ensure all equipment and mechanical systems are safe, reliable, and properly maintained to support daily golf course operations and consistent course conditioning. Supervision Received This employee works under the general supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and the direct oversight of the General Manager. Work is reviewed through observation, reports, and overall results achieved. Supervision Exercised May provide technical direction, instruction, and training to seasonal and full-time golf maintenance employees in the safe and proper use of equipment. Essential Functions Performs preventive maintenance and repairs on all golf course equipment including greens, fairway, and rough mowers; utility vehicles; tractors; aerators; carts and other specialized turf maintenance machinery. Diagnoses mechanical, hydraulic, electrical, and small engine problems; performs repairs, replacements, and adjustments as needed. Sharpens, grinds, and sets cutting units for precise reel-to-bedknife contact and mowing quality. Maintains service schedules, equipment logs, and records of repairs, parts, and fluid changes. Maintains and repairs irrigation pump stations, pond fountain motors, and other mechanical systems associated with course water features and functions. Fabricates parts, welds, and modifies equipment as necessary to improve performance or adapt to course conditions. Maintains shop tools, lifts, and work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition; ensures compliance with OSHA and environmental safety standards. Orders, tracks, and inventories parts, filters, fluids, and supplies within budget limits. Assists in training golf maintenance staff on proper operation, care, and safety of equipment. Coordinates with the Superintendent and General Manager on equipment needs, replacement schedules, and capital planning. Operates turf maintenance equipment when required to assist with mowing, aerification, or special projects. Provides emergency response for equipment failures, irrigation pump issues, and weather-related needs including snow removal or storm cleanup. Performs all other related duties as required. Minimum Qualifications 1. Education and Experience Graduation from high school or equivalent; AND B. Three (3) years of progressively responsible experience in small engine, automotive, turf, or agricultural equipment repair, preferably in a golf course or parks maintenance environment; OR C. An equivalent combination of education and experience. 2. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Thorough knowledge of gasoline and diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical systems, and turf equipment maintenance; ability to interpret service manuals, schematics, and diagnostic tools. B. Skill in the use of precision grinding equipment, welders, and common shop tools. C. Knowledge of safe handling and disposal of oils, fuels, and lubricants in compliance with environmental regulations. D. Ability to establish and maintain a preventive maintenance program; keep accurate service and cost records. E. Ability to communicate effectively with supervisors and staff, prioritize workload, and work independently with minimal supervision. F. Ability to instruct staff on safe operating practices and maintain a cooperative, team-oriented environment. 3. Special Qualifications Must possess a valid Utah driver's license and be able to obtain a Utah Class A CDL within 6 months of hire date. Must be able to obtain safety and equipment certifications as required. Welding and fabrication experience preferred. May be required to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as golf operations demand. 4. Work Environment Incumbent performs duties primarily in a shop environment with regular exposure to noise, fumes, dust, oils, and weather extremes. Tasks involve physical activity including walking, standing, bending, kneeling, lifting up to 70 pounds, and operating mechanical equipment. Common eye, hand, and finger dexterity required. Mental application involves mechanical reasoning, problem-solving, attention to detail, and time management. 5. Tools The City will provide all the tools needed to complete your job.
