Summary:
This position functions with a high degree of autonomy and reports
to the Process Engineering Manager, while actively supporting
operational needs. The primary focus is utilization of process
engineering skills to support plant stability, optimization and
cost reduction in support of achieving the business goals.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities include but are not limited

Support company EHS requirements and practices. Embrace cultural

Ensure compliance with company standards, practices, and
procedures.
Learn plant processes, equipment, practices and utility systems in
order to study, analyze and interpret data.
Monitor, observe, analyze, troubleshoot, recommend and implement
changes to support improvements in process flow, uptime,
productivity, yield and cost reduction.
Respond to operations, maintenance and management requests to
analyze and troubleshoot urgent system issues.
Develop collaborative relationships and function with a team
approach to develop solutions, by involving appropriate members of
operations, maintenance, engineering, EHS, procurement and
accounting staff.
Develop understanding of the business and key cost drivers.
Update or create operating instructions, engineering drawings
(PFDs/P&IDs) and procedures.
Support Capex projects functioning in both project support and team
leader (small cap) roles providing scope development, conceptual
design and budget estimates.
Work with outside engineering firms, vendors, on site construction
contractors, and consultants.
Support MOC process and change implementation.
Deliverables:
Plant optimization as defined by improvements in: cost, throughput,
yield, reliability and energy efficiencies.
Projects meet or exceed environmental, health, safety and security
(EHS&S) objectives.
Proper scoping, budgeting and execution (on, or better than
schedule/budget) of assigned capital projects.
Develop appropriate written operation and maintenance
procedures.
Develop and maintain appropriate project documentation, reports,
studies, drawings and records.
Qualifications
Experience as a process engineer in a production plant or operation
with an understanding of unit process operations such as milling,
crushing, screening, and material handling (pumping, pneumatic
conveying, mechanical conveying, etc.) and packaging is highly
desirable. General understanding of relevant engineering
disciplines (civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical) as well
as process control, instrumentation, and automation. Ability to
effectively communicate and collaborate with all stakeholders
(operations, maintenance, purchasing, managers, EHS, and business
units). Ability to lead project execution teams including mentoring
and development of others.
Education and Experience:
A bachelor's degree in an engineering discipline (chemical
preferred).
Minimum of five (5) years direct experience in process engineering
(minerals or chemical industry preferred).
Experience in process engineering including the ability to
understand and create Process Flow Diagrams, Process and
Instrumentation Diagrams, process equipment specifications, and
creating process control narratives.
Familiar with Control Systems.
Experience leading small capital projects (
Proficient with capital analysis/justification to support business
needs.
Computer Skills:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should be PC
proficient and possess the ability to master required computer
skills required to function within the Engineering group. Must be
proficient in Windows, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. Experience with
statistical analysis tools (Minitab) preferred.

Ability to read, analyze and interpret job related technical
information, Ability to write reports, business correspondence,

regulatory officials and outside engineering consultants.
Mathematical and Reasoning Ability and Skills :
Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and
interpret graphs. Must be able to review engineering calculations,
engineering drawings, specifications, equipment sizing, piping
sizes, motor HP calculations and construction drawings for
soundness. This includes those prepared within the Engineering
group and those prepared by outside consultants. Ability to apply
common sense understanding to carry out detailed instructions and
to deal with problems involving multiple variables. Ability to
collect and accurately assemble data in a logical statistical
manner. Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety
of concrete variables in situations where only limited
standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of
instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw
valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of
technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal
with several abstract and concrete variables.
