Job Summary/Basic Function:
Using a Black and African American cultural studies lens, the Black Cultural Center (BCC) seeks to holistically enrich, connect and support students through Black and African American cultural studies-centered research, culturally affirming educational initiatives, and service. The Program Manager will work to foster an environment of belonging, where diversity is celebrated, and equity is a core value by providing education to the campus community regarding Black and African American identities and supports the creation and awareness of best practices and inclusion for Black African Diasporas on a systemic level. The center is open to all students and the Program Manager shall encourage all students to utilize the services and resources of the center.

Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Access and Inclusion within the Centers for Belonging and Cultural Engagement, the Black Cultural Center Program Manager supervises staff and provides support to Black and African American students and anyone who would like to utilize the services of the Center by working to build intra-cultural and cross-cultural relationships through programming.

Through intentional programmatic learning outcomes, the Program Manager will build belonging and community at Weber State University, while engaging and motivating faculty, staff, and students, to join this effort, with the goal of increasing the retention and persistence of students who utilize the services of the center. Through research and education, this center will promote and explore identity formation, cultural heritage and tradition, leadership, and connections with the larger Black and African American community.

The Program Manager develops and organizes events and services that address culture, climate, belonging, and healthy identity development. The Program Manager facilitates student learning, co-curricular resources, effective leadership skills, and professional development opportunities.

The Program Manager supports and cultivates partnerships with a range of University departments/organizations, off-campus organizations/businesses, and alumni to strengthen the retention, persistence rates, and quality of life of Black and African American students and their peers at Weber State University who would like to utilize the services of the center.

The Program Manager is knowledgeable of the unique challenges Black and African American communities may experience and will contribute to creating culturally responsive engagement and outreach initiatives that foster resilience, well-being, inclusion, and achievement for Black and African American students, faculty and staff, parents/families, alumni and anyone who would like to utilize the services of the center.

Ability to work a flexible schedule, including some nights and weekends when necessary.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor s degree in a related field or equivalent combination of education and work experience
  • At least two years of related professional experience
  • Experience with student programming and student services

    Preferred Qualifications:
    • Master s degree; preferred degree areas: Higher Education Administration, Ethnic Studies, Student Affairs, Leadership, Social Work, Counseling, Sociology, or another related field
    • Knowledge of identity and leadership development theories
    • Strong collaboration and communication skills with the ability to build and maintain successful partnerships across campus and in the community
    • Effective organizational skills and the ability to multitask and manage the needs of various campus and community constituents.
    • Knowledge and experience with advertising and marketing including the use of social media outlets
    • Experience with cultural centers and best practices
    • Experience developing a program from idea to implementation
