Job Description:This position functions as both a Patient Care Tech (PCT) and Health Unit Coordinator (HUC). A Patient Care Tech functions as a clinical support partner assisting the patient care team by performing various tasks and procedures as instructed by a licensed professional. Our most common diagnoses include: Sepsis, GI bleed, CVA/TIA, overdose, alcohol withdrawal, DKA, pneumonia, stroke, respiratory failure, and renal failure. We are a fast pace critical care area and see a variety of clinical situations. We are a unit that provides great support to our team members while also providing a great learning environment. We are like family and teamwork is our top priority.More about IMC:

  • We have 34 telemetry monitored beds with 4 nurses stations.
  • We have tele critical care capacity in all 34 rooms and can receive extra support from an intensivists and ICU nurses with this feature.
  • Our average patient to tech ratio is 6 to 8 patients- depending on the acuity and shift
  • After 23:00 through 05:00 am our techs work in a support role to the nurse and do not have primary patient assignments. (help answer call lights, turn and position, blood sugars).
  • Our patient care techs also work in the role of a patient safety attendant which includes providing 1:1 care for a patient who is at risk for safety concerns. (suicidal ideations, confusion)
  • The unit can be locked 24/7 when necessary for patient and staff safety.Posting SpecificsBenefits Eligible: YesShift Details: All positions are full-time, 36 hours/week. There will be call requirements and the rotating of weekends and holidays. You may work one of the following shifts:
    • 50% days, 50% nights on a rotating basis
    • Seniority-based self-scheduling shifts
    • Shifts are 5am-5:30pm and 5pm-5:30am
    • 5 pm to pm to 11 pm (6 hours).Additional Details: Shift differentials are given for evenings, nights, and weekends.Job EssentialsPatient Care:Prioritizes and delivers basic patient care which may include toileting, bathing, linen and clothing changes, fresh water and ice, ambulating, comfort measures, and other patient needs.Assists with admission, discharge, and transfer of patients.Provides excellent customer service when responding to patient and family requests.Reports and records patient care findings and data in a timely manner. Reports changes in the patient condition quickly and secures qualified assistance as needed.Based on unit, may also be responsible for telemetry duties.Can function as a patient care attendant by monitoring patient, taking care of patient care needs, and involving other members of the patient care team as needed.When working on a clinical unit, may be required to take medications from the delivery system to the RN.Collaboration:Collaborates and consults with RN and other members of the interdisciplinary team for best patient care.Demonstrates effective teamwork, prioritization, communication, and organization.Performs non-nursing duties as delegated (e.g., cleaning, stocking, answering phones, clerical support, providing directions).Implements plan of care as delegated.Performs assigned duties within Scope of Practice. Performs specialized procedures with skill validation and according to regulatory standards. Fosters a safe environment by complying with the safety policy and taking appropriate action in an emergency.Minimum QualificationsCurrent CNA Certification.ORCompletion of nursing assistant training program (verification of nursing assistant training program completion required upon hire and C.N.A. certification required within 120 days of hire).ORCompletion of a fundamentals of nursing class with a passing grade within the past two years (official transcript required upon hire to verify completion of class and C.N.A. certification required within 120 days of hire).Strong written and verbal communication skills.Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) for healthcare providers.Preferred Qualifications
      • CNA experience or applicable healthcare experience.
      • Current enrollment in nursing school.
      • Basic computer skills.Physical Requirements:Ongoing need for employee to see and read information, labels, assess patient needs, operate monitors, identify equipment and supplies.
        • and -Frequent interactions with patient care providers, patients, and visitors that require employee to verbally communicate as well as hear and understand spoken information, alarms, needs, and issues quickly and accurately, particularly during emergency situations.
          • and -Manual dexterity of hands and fingers to manipulate complex and delicate equipment with precision and accuracy. This includes frequent computer use and typing for documenting patient care, accessing needed information, medication preparation, etc.
            • and -Expected to lift and utilize full range of movement to transfer patients. Will also bend to retrieve, lift, and carry supplies and equipment. Typically includes items of varying weights, up to and including heavy items.
              • and -Need to walk and assist with transporting/ambulating patients and obtaining and distributing supplies and equipment. This includes pushing/pulling gurneys and portable equipment, including heavy items. Often required to navigate crowded and busy rooms (full of equipment, power cords on the floor, etc).
