SUMMARY
The Licensed Practical/Vocational Nurse (LPN/LVN) Lead provides
care to patients with the goal of promotion and/or maintenance of
health and/or prevention of illness and injury based upon the
nursing process at Hill Air Force Base.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other
duties may be assigned.
Responsible for the integration of CNI Core Competencies into daily

Leads a team that assists in routine care and treatment of
patients, to include flying and special operational personnel.
Organizes the medical environment, performs and participates in
support activities for outpatient care situations, including
contingency operations and disasters.
Follows and complies with AF, 75 MDG and section Instructions when
providing patient care.
Complies with all 75 MDG infection control and safety procedures,
practices and standards.
Meets all applicable AAAHC and HSI standards.
Participates in programs of immunizations and health screening.
Prepares patients for physical examinations, tests and diagnostic
procedures. Assists physicians with special examinations and
procedures. Initiates and completes laboratory requests using
computer system.
Performs vital signs, PFTs, hearing/vision screening,
immunizations, medication administration, EKGs and lab procedures,
etc. as protocols require.
Skills in setting up, operating, and monitoring medical equipment
such as; audiometric equipment, PFT equipment, and EKG equipment,
in order to conduct the tests and to understand normal values to
get provider assistance when necessary.
Reviews the SEG packet in the patient's medical record to assure
all paperwork that is required is in the packet for the provider
including OEHED, AF 2766, questionnaires, OEHME form, and all test
results.
Brings noted abnormalities to the attention of reviewing provider
and take action as instructed.
Communicates patient progress or lack of to physicians and
supervisory nursing personnel.
Provides to AD, qualified tenant and civilian workers who report
for care in the OMS. Performs direct care using knowledge of safety
hazards; diseases and immunizations; regulatory guidelines.
Completes appropriate patient identification information. Instruct
patients in completing forms. Enters patient care information in
AHLTA. Properly codes own workload IAW 75 MDG instructions.
In the absence of a physician, independently determine and
implement emergency measures after identifying and interpreting
life-threatening conditions. Will be familiar with all emergency
equipment, crash cart and its contents.
Prioritizes patients to ensure he/she receives medical care
consistent with their condition and appointment.
Performs various pulmonary ventilation treatments such as
administration of oxygen, nebulizer treatments, and peak flow
measures.
Attends department's in-services, meetings/briefings, and
continuing quality improvement training measures.
Participates in evaluation of the quality and effectiveness of
activities/services as directed by the RN Supervisor.
Provides instructions to patient regarding splints, ice packs,
crutches, etc.
Maintains medical records; complete various forms for inclusion in
medical records and checks for provider signature. Reviews all
tests for abnormalities prior to assembling medical records.
Compile results of various medical tests placing them in the
medical record in correct sequential and chronological order.
Maintains documentation logs. Maintain exam and treatment room
supplies.
Assists in the orientation and training of new personnel.
Responsible for aiding in own self-development by being available
and receptive to all training made available by the company.
Plans daily activities within the guidelines of company policy, job
description and supervisor's instruction in such a way as to
maximize personal output.
Responsible for keeping own immediate work area in a neat and
orderly condition to ensure safety of self and co-workers. Will
report any unsafe conditions and/or practices to the appropriate
supervisor and human resources. Will immediately correct any unsafe
conditions as the best of own ability.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
LPN/LVN certification and a minimum of two (2) year relevant
experience.

JOB SPECIFIC KNOWLEDGE / SKILLS / ABILITIES
Knowledge of instruments and diagnostic or treatment procedures
commonly used in the OMS clinic to include electrocardiogram,
extensive vision testing, spirometry, and mini-mental status
testing.
Ability to recognize adverse signs and symptoms including abnormal
vital signs, and quickly react in emergency situations.
Knowledge and skill in emergency first aid procedures.
Knowledge of the administrative requirements for proper
documentation of test results, patients condition including
injury/illness progress, acknowledgement of teaching, and follow up
care.
Knowledge of normal and abnormal results to recognize and report
obvious abnormalities.
Knowledge of a variety of pharmacological agents used in patient
treatment, the desired effects, side effects, and complications of
their use.
Skills to interact with patients in stressful and non-stressful
situations.
Knowledge of basic medical terminology.
Knowledge of basic anatomy, physiology, chemistry, and
mathematics.
Knowledge of information management system sufficient to enter and
retrieve occupational health data.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, Outlook, and Internet
familiarity is required. Knowledge of operations of various
microcomputer equipment and be able to input, retrieve, and format
documentation.
LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules,
operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to
speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of
organization.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts,
interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area,
circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic
algebra and geometry.
REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of
concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization
exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in
written, oral, diagram or schedule form.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
