Job Summary/Basic Function
To manage payment of WSU employees timely and accurately while
insuring compliance with applicable laws and institution policies.
Accomplishing this responsibility is done by directing payroll
staff assigned to: time sheet and adjunct payrolls, salaried and
supplemental payrolls, and assisting walk-in and telephone
customers in the office. Managing the following processes are
critical to accomplishing the office responsibilities: maintenance
of employee files in the office and masterfiles on the payroll
software; timely processing of payrolls and distribution of pay;
reconciliation and remittance of premiums on all employee benefits
and deductions, annual input and maintenance of salary; salary
budgets and position control for the university; distribution and
collection of payroll data for all campus departments; computation,
deduction and remittance of garnished and levied wages; maintenance
of the leave system, including vacation and sick leave balances on
appropriate employees; maintain the tables, cod
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in accounting or related field
Five years of accounting/payroll or general business experience
Two years of working with payroll systems and regulations
Two years of supervising/managing people
Passing the American Payroll Association's Certified Payroll
Professional certification could replace the one year systems
experience requirement and some of the time managing people
requirement.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in accounting or related field
Experience in payroll withholdings and taxation issues
Banner Ellucian experience
Higher education experience
Proficient knowledge of Microsoft office
Excellent oral/written communication skills
