Overview:
Responsible for writing new application programs and updating
existing ones. Works closely with Programmer Analysts/Engineers and
other Programmers to receive training, guidance, technical
directions, and design specifications. Participates in the design,
testing, documentation, and implementation of application programs.
Provides application support to end users and ensures that written
programs are run efficiently. Works closely with end users and
Quality Control to ensure program product meets end user needs.
Responsibilities:
- Assumes responsibility for producing, testing, and implementing
assigned program requests under the leadership of an experienced
programmera. a. a. Develops new mainframe programming skills mainly
focused on COBOL programming.
b. Codes and tests programs.
c. Analyzes, researches, and resolves current operating
problems.
d. Tests program performance and assesses user acceptance of it.
Obtains user approval on changes. Recommends application
improvements.
e. Ensures that data accuracy and integrity are maintained.
f. Formulates and recommends programming-related procedures and
changes which increase operating efficiency. Designs programs.
g. Maintains program documentation.
h. Implements update procedures.
i. Learns and follows all AFCU Programming standards.
- Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining good
communication and coordination with users. a. Responds to users'
requests and problems, gathers information, and follows through
promptly. Keeps users well informed. Ensures that programs meet
user's needs and are completed on schedule. b. Communicates as much
information as possible to users, including reasons for problems,
project status, and deadlines. c. Ensures that interactions with
users are courteous, clear, and understandable. d. Maintains good
relations with users and earns their confidence. e. Trains users as
required.
- Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining
effective communication and coordination with area staff and with
management. a. Assists other Programmers and Information Systems
personnel as needed and shares programming techniques. b. Keeps
management informed of significant problems, and of progress
attained in reaching established objectives. c. Completes and
properly submits all reports and related paperwork.
- Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or
assigned. a. Stays informed regarding current technologies and
emerging business trends and developments. b. Keeps work area
clean, secure, and well maintained. Qualifications:
Training/Education/Certification:
- B.S. degree in Computer Science or related field or an
equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Can
also be currently enrolled and nearing completion of stated degree.
Preferred/Required Knowledge:
- Preferred experience developing applications in COBOL (Although
not required)
- Experience in other programming languages.
- Knowledge of business applications
- Experience using MS Office
- Database SQL experience Skills/Abilities:
- Solid organizational and logic skills and attention to
detail.
- Good interpersonal skills.
- Willing to assist and support others.

- Work well with and communicate with people. Work well in a team
