Job Description:
Job DescriptionOVERVIEW:Works directly under the Director and
various Division Chiefs of the Weber Public Defender Group (WPDG).
Work will include representing indigent parties in criminal matters
in justice and/or district courts as assigned. YOUR
RESPONSIBILITIES:Perform duties as assigned by the Director,
Division Chiefs and/or supervisors including, but not limited to:
Interviewing clients and performing needs assessments. Setting up
and reviewing case files and appropriate records. Preparing and
filing pleadings and motions as may be appropriate. Negotiating
cases with prosecutors.Collaborating closely with team attorneys,
staff members and various agencies to achieve favorable outcomes
for our clients.Representing WPDG on various county and/or state
committees as assigned.Serving on in-house committees and/or
spearheading groups as assigned.ABOUT YOU:Education: Graduation
from an accredited law school.Licensing: Must be licensed to
practice law in the State of Utah. We may also consider law school
graduates waiting to take the Utah State bar exam in
2022.Experience: Parties of all experience levels will be
considered. More important than experience is a passion for helping
others, especially indigent members of our community. Relevant
pre-law experience may also be considered.Skills: Experience with
Word, Excel, and PowerPoint as well as online research programs
(Westlaw) and the ability to learn and work with various client
management software (Defender Data). Advanced skills in creating
spreadsheets, charts, graphs, and presentations using MS Office
Suite is preferred. Must have good oral communication,
organizational, writing, and typing skills.Abilities: This position
requires a good listener, a perceptive mind, and a desire to help.
Must be willing to follow written and verbal directions and
self-motivated. Must possess the ability to establish and maintain
effective working relationships with members of the WPDG Team,
other departments and the public. YOUR SPECIAL QUALIFICATIONS: Must
be licensed to practice law in the State of Utah. We may also
consider law school graduates waiting to take the Utah State bar
