The mission of the Idaho Department of Correction is to protect the public, our staff and those within our custody and supervision through safety, accountability, partnerships and providing opportunities for offender change.


Correctional Corporals provide security and protection functions as well as lead work responsibilities within the correctional facilities. This position assists in unit operations to ensure that all unit documentation and security procedures are adhered to.

This announcement will be used to fill current or future vacancies at the St. Anthony Work Camp in St. Anthony, Idaho. This announcement may also be used to fill future vacancies in the St. Anthony Work Camp within the next 6 months. If you wish to be considered for this vacancy, you must apply under this announcement. Previous scores will not be used.  All interested applicants are encouraged to apply even if there is not a current opening for Corporal at the facility that you are interested in.

If you are interested in other regions of the State for IDOC then you will be required to submit a separate application and exam for the other specific locations (North Idaho or Boise). These announcements will be posted periodically.

This is a Department Promotional announcement. Only applicants who are currently employed with the Idaho Department of Correction and are eligible for a promotion will be considered for this opening.

  • Provide the same security and protective functions as a Correctional Officer including supervising incarcerated individuals in work, living, and recreation situations
  • Protect staff and residents through non-invasive special tactics or by force, if necessary
  • Assists with unit operations and ensures staff and residents adhere to security procedures
  • Trains employees, provides guidance, assigns work, monitors performance, and provides performance feedback
  • Provides back-up to unit Sergeants, and may provide shift commander coverage
  • May participate in specialized treatment programs and perform lead work responsibilities of security staff in the delivery and support of treatment services
  • Experience performing security and control procedures in a correctional environment
  • Peace Officer and Standards Training (P.O.S.T.) certified as a Correctional Officer or Detention Officer OR be grandfathered in for the Correctional Officer certification in accordance with IDAPA Rule
  • Some knowledge of supervision


  • Experience participating on a team in a corrections setting, experience as an FTO, or instructor (not required but if you have related background it may increase your score)


To be hired, candidates will have a history and background supportive of department's goals and hiring will be subject to:

  • Completing a Background Investigation Questionnaire and pre-employment drug test
  • Having a federal and state criminal background check to include fingerprints
  • Having a history of law-abiding behavior
  • Felonies, misdemeanors, illegal drug usage, DUIs, adverse driving convictions and adverse employment history may make you ineligible for employment.
  • Having close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody may also make you ineligible for employment

Non-hiring restrictions are in place for candidates who:

  • Have been convicted of Domestic Violence or similar types of violent behaviors
  • Have an "other than honorable", bad conduct or dishonorable discharge from military service
  • Currently are using, dealing or are associated with illegal drugs
  • Have close friends or relatives under IDOC care & custody where the vacancy exists
  • Are currently under IDOC supervision or probation (must be released from IDOC supervision or probation for at least one year)
