Position Summary

The RSVP Coordinator supports and advances the development and implementation of the Retired and Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP). This position's primary role is to assist the RSVP Director with volunteer recruitment and management in Monroe County, Iowa.

  • Recruits new volunteers, including RSVP Advisory Council Members, through community presentations, utilizing media, and attending community events as appropriate
  • Ensures prospective volunteers completes all paperwork necessary to become a RSVP volunteer
  • Discusses volunteer opportunities with prospective volunteers to determine their interest and schedule
  • Recruits volunteer stations with volunteer opportunities that meet program objectives
  • Provides orientations to new volunteers and new volunteer stations
  • Ensures volunteers and volunteer stations are familiar with time sheet and data collection needs
  • Collects monthly time sheets from volunteer stations and volunteers
  • Maintains contact with volunteers and volunteer stations to determine volunteer needs and concerns
  • Contacts volunteer stations with volunteer information after a volunteer has agreed to consider serving at the station
  • Utilize the Volunteer Reporter Data Base to develop job assignments, job descriptions and recording of volunteer hours
  • Attends Advisory Council meetings as needed
  • Assists with volunteer appreciation events
  • Regularly familiarizes self with rules and regulations of Corporation for National & Community Service (CNCS) for the RSVP program
  • Fosters organizational teamwork by participating in special projects and organizational activities
  • Aligns work behavior and work based on the UWWC Code of Ethics and Organizational Values
  • Sets up and maintains up-to-date volunteer paper files, ensuring that all information required by the CNCS is contained in those files
  • Maintains confidentiality of volunteer information

2. Competencies, Knowledge and Experience

Competencies:

  • Relationship Building: Ability to establish and maintain good rapport and cooperative relationships with customers and coworkers. Able to work with people across various socio-economic backgrounds
  • Presentation skills: Ability to effectively present information to a group
  • Communications skills, Oral: Ability to send verbal messages, and listen to others' responses in order to convey information
  • Communication, Written: Ability to write concise, clear letters, reports, articles, or emails including proofing and editing
  • Self-motivated: Ability to reach a goal or perform a task with little or no supervision
  • Attention to detail: Ability to maintain organization, function and attention to detail

Education:

  • A high school diploma or GED, some college preferred

Experience:

  • At least two years of experience in Human Services or related area
  • Familiarity with Monroe County community including community and nonprofit groups/agencies
  • Previous experience working with volunteers and/or older adults preferred

Computer Skills:

  • Computer literacy including proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Outlook, and familiarity with data entry systems

Other requirements

  • Valid driver's license, dependable transportation, and proof of adequate automobile insurance
  • Willingness to travel within Monroe County and occasional travel into Wapello County.
  • Position is subject to a three part criminal history check which will include FBI fingerprinting, statewide criminal history repository check, and a National Sex Offender Public Website registry check.
  • Residence in Monroe County

Status: Part-time at 20 hours per week, Monday through Friday flexible schedule with occasional weekends

Hourly Rate: $13.26 per hour (Position subject to grant fund availability)
