Deschutes County is accepting applications for a Maintenance
Specialist. This position performs a variety of skilled tasks in
the maintenance of buildings, equipment and fixtures. Duties
include but are not limited to building, repairing, and maintaining
Sheriff's Officefacilities, properties, offices and furniture;
inspecting, maintaining, and repairing mechanical equipment,
heating, ventilating and electrical systems; and maintaining
records on all maintenance and repair activities. This position is
specifically responsible for overseeing the operation of the
mechanical and electrical systems of County buildings located
within the Justice Center Complex, which includes the Jail, Work
Center, and Sheriff's Office. The incumbent will perform a variety
of maintenance, custodial and carpentry work in building
facilities, as well as other related work as required.

Typical shift is Tuesday through Saturday, 1:00 p.m. to
9:00 p.m. however, this position will require working evenings,
weekends and holidays when necessary to meet the needs of the
Sheriff's Office. Must be available for on-call rotations when

$4,073.36 to $5,458.70 per month for a 173.33 hour work month.

High school diploma or GED equivalent; AND five (5) years of
work experience in building maintenance, including proficiency in
two or more skilled building trades acquired through
journeyman-level training and experience in construction and
building maintenance; OR any equivalent combination of training,
education, and experience that provides the required skills and
knowledge to perform the job.
Preference will be given for:
- Certification and/or skill in any of the following: electrical,
plumbing, carpentry, painting, welding, or HVAC.
Must possess knowledge of:
- Methods, procedures, materials, equipment, and techniques used
for facilities maintenance, repair, and construction projects,
including carpentry, plumbing, and skills.
- Safe work practices, occupational hazards, and safety
precautions in public facilities.
- Standard principles and practices of the construction industry
and building trades.
Must have a demonstrated ability to
- Perform a variety of building maintenance functions such as
demolition, carpentry, painting, concrete finishing,minor plumbing
and electrical repairs.
- Repair a variety of mechanical, heating and ventilating

Application and Selection Process:
Candidates are required to meet certain standards in order to be
considered for hire by the Deschutes County Sheriff's Office. The
selection process includes a thorough examination of the
application form, attachments, and supplemental responses. The
application review will be used to assess each candidate's ability
to follow instructions and give complete and accurate information
in written form . Additional minimum qualifications include
passing a pre-qualifying driving record review and

Necessary Special Requirements
Possession of or ability to obtain a valid Oregon driver's
license within 30 days of hire date. The employment offer will be
contingent upon presentation of an acceptable and verifiable
driver's license, pre-employment screening for criminal history,

results for marijuana use may result in rescission of a contingent

Physical requirements: Work is primarily performed
in a field setting which may require protective equipment to
protect against potential environmental hazards or involve working

of equipment and supplies. Must also have the ability to work
outdoors in all types of weather conditions.
