Minimum Education: Bachelor of Science in Clinical Laboratory Science or equivalent.

Minimum Work Experience: 5 year minimum laboratory scientist work experience. 3-5 years laboratory supervisory experience.

Required Licenses / Certifications: BLS, ASCP or equivalent

Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities: Complete knowledge and understanding of laboratory analysis. strong people and process management skills. Laboratory testing skills, phlebotomy skills.


The manager directs all laboratory functions including 1. Supervision of specimen collection and sample testing. 2. Department staffing of phlebotomists and clinical scientists. 3. Quality control management 4. laboratory physical facility management 5. instrument acquisitions and repairs 6. policy and procedure manuals 7. reagent and testing supply order and management 8. Point of Care testing supervision 9. Mountain River Birthing Center laboratory management.


Demonstrates respect and regard for the dignity of all patients, staff, families, visitors and acts in a professional manner at all times. Promotes effective working relations and works effectively as part of a department unit team. Promotes effective working relationships with employees of all other departments. Plans, organizes, and directs departmental/program activities. Develops goals and objectives, establishes and implements policies and procedures for the department/program operations. Reviews department performance, affects changes, as needed, to improve services provided and ensure compliance with both hospital guidelines and regulatory requirements, and keeps administration informed of departmental/program activities, needs, and problems. Introduces and demonstrates new procedures, programs, and equipment to the staff. Plans and conducts meetings and discussions with both administrations and staff to encourage participation in formulating departmental/program policies, promote initiative, solve problems, and to interpret new regulations and procedures. Oversees the selection, training/orientation, and assignment of the staff. Develops standards of performance and monitors and supervises staff; evaluates performances and initiates or makes recommendations for personnel actions, such as promotions, salary increases, and disciplinary action. Develops and recommends department operating budget and ensures that the department operates within allocated funds. Applies cost-effective measures to select and purchase equipment and supplies. Is responsible for the department's operational excellence and ensures that the department delivers quality services in accordance with applicable policies, procedures, and professional standards. Is responsible for the fiscal management of the department and ensures the proper utilization of organization's financial resources. Effectively communicates departmental, organizational, and professional information to staff. Attains all agreed to goals and objectives within specified time frames, as part of the organization's overall mission. Attends all required safety training programs and can describe his/her responsibilities related to general safety, departmental/service safety, and specific job-related hazards. Trains staff in the same. Follows the hospital exposure control plans/bloodborne and airborne pathogens. Directs and oversees all (POC) point of care laboratory testing in the facility. Oversees, directs, and manages all laboratory functions within the facility. Assists in all aspects of laboratory testing as required by daily workload. Maintains instrument interfaces in the laboratory Maintains database for the general laboratory. Builds and maintains database for the reference laboratory tests. Builds and maintains control interfaces. Supervises and manages all test results in the laboratory by daily review of quality control and patient test results. Maintains and troubleshoots all instrumentation and procedures in the effort to maintain an efficient workflow. Establishes, updates, and maintains laboratory procedure and policy manuals. Maintains and orders, as needed, inventory and supplies to efficiently operate the laboratory. Has direct responsibility for the evaluation and procurement of all laboratory equipment. Schedules work assignments and plans work schedules of employees to maintain consistent and adequate coverage of the laboratory. Functions in the role of supervisor, staff scientist, or phlebotomist, as needed, to effectively maintain workflow in the laboratory. Develop and maintain a new employee orientation plan and procedure for the department. Develop and maintain a plan and procedure for new employee training in the department.
