This position provides front desk administrative support for the University of Utah School of Dentistry Ogden Dental Clinic. This position will have direct contact with patients to coordinate their care through scheduling, verifying insurance benefits, and verifying eligibility for financial assistance.

This job description has been designed to indicate the general nature and level of work performed by employees within this classification. Essential Functions

1. Acts as a liaison between the dentists and patients in the coordination of their care.

2. Schedules and registers patients into Epic.

3. Answers phones and triages calls for patient care.

4. Assists in the check-in and check-out of patients, collecting payment, and/or insurance information and provides financial estimates to patients in accordance with the No Surprises Act.

5. Provides administrative support as assigned for all administrative and scheduling needs.

6. Provides customer service support for patients related to billing and services provided.

7. Verifies patient benefits.

8. Obtains or confirms pre-authorization for procedures. Enters or checks patient registration demographics and makes corrections as needed. Documents insurance coverage and authorization information in patient account notes.

9. Refers and assists patients in application process for Medicaid.

10. Maintains understanding of various grant funding requirements as they pertain to financial support for patients.

11. Ensures that all related patient appointments for care are secured in a timely manner.

12. Manages patient recalls, dismissals, and follow-up care for the Ogden Dental Clinic.

13. Acts to ensure clinic policies and processes are followed.

14. Adheres to standards set by OSHA, HIPAA, FERPA, CODA and other standards set by the department.

15. Participates in committees and discussions regarding clinic operations, materials, protocols, and/or quality assurance.

* Demonstrated knowledge of HIPAA regulations to ensure that patient information is guarded and respected.
* Ability to navigate a facility with multiple providers and services.

Minimum Qualifications

Three years of experience working in an office or clinic, with an emphasis in scheduling, or a related area, or equivalency; and demonstrated effective communication, human relations, and computer skills required. Some areas of assignment require completion of a medical terminology course, certification related to specific area, and/or additional years of related experience.

This position is patient-sensitive and must fulfill all associated requirements. Experience with CDT codes may be preferred.

One year or greater dental office experience.

Epic experience.

Bilingual in Spanish preferred.
